Meet the Maze Makers
Once you've collected your ticket the fun begins. You'll meet one of the Maze Men at the entrance to the famous Jubilee Maze: his introduction will set the mood and help you get the most out of your visit, although he'll never reveal the secret of solving the maze!

The Maze Makers are brothers Lindsay and Edward Heyes. They built the Jubilee Maze in 1977 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and added the world's first permanent exhibition on the history of mazes in 1991 - the Museum of Mazes was opened by Viscount Ullswater, Minister for Trade and Industry, to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the planting of the Hampton Court maze, the oldest remaining hedge maze in England.
- Lindsay Heyes is the creator of the Museum of Mazes, and an acknowledged expert on their history and geometry. He's dedicated to making your experience good fun, and is usually on-hand to answer your questions. His team runs Maze Days for booked groups and The AMAZING HEDGE PUZZLE
Education Outreach projects. These have included activity sessions for
B.A.Y.S. (the youth section of the British Association for the
Advancement of Science), Maths Masterclasses for the Royal Institution,
team-building sessions for management training schemes, and support for
local charities.
- Edward Heyes takes care of
the Jubilee Maze. A perfectionist, he does all the hedge-trimming
himself, which takes him around ten weeks every year. That's why movie
location scouts keep saying that it's the best-kept maze in Europe. He
also manages the aMazing Puzzle Shop, with its incredible range of
puzzles.
The other Maze Men you'll meet
are hand-picked to make your visit the very best of fun - not because they
are men - so don't be surprised if some of the Maze Men are women! They
like working outdoors and can turn their hand to anything. Some have gone
on to be company directors, teachers, solicitors or accountants, but all
of them are nicely talented. |
