Access between Symonds Yat West and Symonds Yat East by pedestrian ferry and footbridge

Two delightful foot-ferries link Symonds Yat West with Symonds Yat East, settlements which lie on opposite banks of the River Wye (Yat Rock is further isolated by a 125 metre hill-climb).

Ferry charges are:

The ferries can't operate when the river is in spate and are hauled-out for the winter. If in doubt, check availability by calling the inns which operate them:

• Symonds Yat East Ferry: run by the Saracen's Head Inn at grid reference SO 561159, telephone +44 (0) 1600 890 435 - it runs daily until the inn closes for the night. You can hail it across the water to get over from the west - expect the barman to finish pulling a pint before he can fetch you;
  
• Symonds Yat West Ferry: run by Ye Olde Ferrie Inne on Saturdays and Sundays only at grid reference SO 557164, telephone +44 (0) 1600 890 232 - again you can hail it from the east bank.

The suspension footbridge at The Biblins (grid reference SO 549144) provides a thrilling alternative route. Boards have been installed, so it is no longer necessary to carry dogs across - unless you really want! The steps up to the bridge used to make a strenuous carry for cyclists, but have been replaced by ramps for wheelchairs. The bridge is closed when the river is likely to flood.

The nearest road bridge at Huntsham has a weight restriction . Alternative road bridges are Kerne Bridge near Goodrich, and at Monmouth.
