Holiday in Symonds Yat

Care for disabled people:

  • Whitchurch House
+44 (0) 1600 890 655. In the quiet country lane leading to our village church, 100 metres from the The AMAZING HEDGE PUZZLE.
  • Merton House Hotel for Elderly and Handicapped People
+44 (0) 1989 563 252. This hotel in Ross-on-Wye provides specialist care for disabled people on holiday.

The AMAZING HEDGE PUZZLE is designed for wheelchairs to be able to pass each other. The entire site is on level ground but set in spectacular scenery. There is a small step into the Puzzle Shop, but tickets can also be obtained from the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, which is fully accessible. Most exhibits in the Museum of Mazes are tactile and make use of bright colours. The viewing-gallery is not accessible to wheelchairs, but hand-rails on the stairs are close enough to be grasped with both hands by adults.

The Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo is fully wheelchair accessible. Veiled hats are available for people with a phobia of butterflies. Magnifiers are provided. Some plants are poisonous, so people with a compulsion to place things in the mouth should avoid entry.

The MiniGolf course has an all-weather artificial turf surface and is uniquely wheelchair friendly, although with several 5cm steps. Ball-lifting and score-counting aids, short putters, and a standard-sized soft putter are available. Misuse of putters can cause damage or injury, and the game can aggravate people who are prone to extreme emotional lability.

There is a toilet with a RADAR lock next to our ticket office and parking for disabled drivers. RADAR keys can be purchased from local authorities, RADAR, and from Tourist Information Centres, and we keep one at the ticket office for emergencies.

A FULL ACCESS STATEMENT IN AN APPROVED FORMAT CAN BE E-MAILED ON REQUEST
